Woven carpets are woven by hand on upright looms or peddle looms with techniques dating back to ancient carpet weaving. This method is similar to hand-knotted weaving, except the intertwining of the warp and weft yarn results in flat dhurrie weaves with no pile. The weft yarns simply pass through the warp yarns. Woven designs tend to be simpler and more geometric in their pattern due to the limitations of the looms. Color, however, is limitless. Master weavers can create very unique structures and textures giving some flatweaves beautiful dimension.
