Knot Count

A measure of the fineness of a carpet, knot count is established by turning a carpet over and tallying the number of knots within a horizontal strip of 1 inch (25 centimeters) and a vertical strip of 1 inch (25 centimeters), and then multiplying the two figures to obtain the count per square. Different weaving areas have different average knot counts and a carpet should only be judged in comparison with local average knot counts.
