Knot type

There are two basic knot types, each with several different names. The Persian knot is also called the asymmetrical or Seeneh knot. The Turkish knot is also called the symmetrical or Ghiordes knot. The names have no geographical significance. However, established weaving areas work with a single knot type, so it may be used to identify the origin of a particular carpet.
