Astier de Villatte x Grace Coddington

Vogue’s longtime creative director Grace Coddington illustrated this collection for Astier de Villatte, building it around her own cats, Jimi and Blanket, in scenes that repeat across the collection’s mugs, teapots, saucers, and greeting cards. Every piece is hand-glazed in Astier de Villatte’s Paris studio using the atelier’s signature black terracotta clay and milky white glaze, so the illustration and the handmade finish are both part of what makes each piece individual.

What’s in the Collection

• Ceramics: teapots, mugs, and saucers illustrated with recurring scenes of Jimi and Blanket - “Jimi’s Bouquet,” “Blanket’s Tea,” “Blanket in Love,” “Naughty Jimi,” and “Keeping Up” among them. Each piece is hand-glazed, so expect the same natural variation as the rest of Astier de Villatte’s tableware. Browse the wider range under Kitchen & Dining.

• Stationery: cards and envelopes carrying the same illustrated scenes as the ceramics, sized for gifting on their own or alongside a mug or teapot from the collection. See more under Décor & Gift.

Why This Collaboration Stands Out

Astier de Villatte works with outside illustrators and designers regularly, but this collection is unusual in how personal it is - Coddington didn’t design a pattern for the brand, she illustrated her own cats into scenes that play out across multiple pieces, so collecting a few of them (a mug and its matching card, for instance) builds a small, connected set rather than just a repeated logo or motif.

Building a Set from the Collection

Because each piece is illustrated with a specific scene rather than a repeatable print, the easiest way to build a set is to pick pieces that share a character or moment - a “Blanket” mug with a “Blanket” card, for example - rather than mixing every scene in the collection. A single piece also works well against plainer Astier de Villatte tableware, the way the brand’s other collaborations are typically styled.

Frequently Asked Questions

Who is Grace Coddington?

Grace Coddington is Vogue’s longtime creative director and a former model, widely known for her work styling and shaping the magazine’s fashion imagery. For this collection, she illustrated Astier de Villatte’s ceramics and stationery with scenes of her own cats.

What is Astier de Villatte?

Astier de Villatte is a Paris-based ceramics atelier known for hand-glazed, black terracotta dinnerware and objects with an intentionally artisanal, uneven finish - each piece is made and glazed by hand rather than machine-produced.

Who are Jimi and Blanket?

Jimi and Blanket are Grace Coddington’s cats, illustrated across the collection’s mugs, teapots, saucers, and cards in recurring named scenes like “Jimi’s Bouquet” and “Blanket in Love.”

Are the mugs and teapots dishwasher or microwave safe?

Care requirements vary by piece, so this should be confirmed on each individual product page rather than assumed - hand-glazed ceramics often carry different care instructions than standard machine-glazed dinnerware.

Is this a limited-edition collection?

Designer collaborations like this one are typically produced in smaller runs than Astier de Villatte’s core tableware line, so availability by piece and size can be limited - check the individual product page for current stock.
