This crystal butterfly is created using a pâte de cristal technique that is ancient and rare, dating back to 5000 B.C. Daum rediscovered this technique in 1900 and further developed it in 1968 making it his specialty. These sculptures are made by melting crystal fragments within a mold that creates a softness of contours that cannot be obtained with blown glass. Pâte de cristal produces a brilliant material that is filled with intense colors and a myriad of subtle shades that all contribute to its uniqueness.
