This is an antique Persian Heriz Serapi wool rug, precisely measuring 10 feet 7 inches by 14 feet 3 inches. Hand-knotted in Iran, this traditional large area rug features a deep red primary color across its main field. The rug is crafted from durable wool, reflecting the quality and construction characteristic of authentic Persian textiles.
The design of the rug is dominated by a prominent central medallion, presented in shades of ivory, navy blue, and earthy brown, set against a lighter ivory background within its own frame. This medallion is echoed by quarter-medallion motifs in the four corners, also rendered in ivory. The expansive red field surrounding these elements is densely patterned with an array of traditional Persian motifs, including stylized palmettes, rosettes, and intricate floral arabesques, detailed in secondary colors such as cream, muted blues, soft greens, and various shades of brown.
A multi-layered border system frames the rug, consisting of a wide main border and several narrow guard bands. The primary border band features a continuous pattern of alternating large palmettes and floral motifs in navy blue, cream, and subtle gold, set against a matching red background. The guard bands complement this design with smaller, repetitive patterns.
This large-format antique Heriz Serapi rug offers a traditional and detailed floor covering suitable for grand living rooms, dining areas, or large entryways. Its hand-knotted wool construction and classic Persian design ensure a durable and visually rich aesthetic that enhances diverse interior settings.
