Our larger than life, heirloom quality Azucar Cherry Wood Bowl began its journey in Palcazu Valley, the Central Amazon of Peru with a focus on protecting and preserving the local forests and their communities. Designed for a conscious lifestyle, each handmade bowl is sustainably harvested from premium cherry wood under a Fair Trade program and crafted from a single piece of wood, allowing the natural dimensions and striations of the tree to breathe a life of its own into each new piece we create.
Artisan groups have been working with indigenous communities in Peru’s central Amazon for 20+ years with a focus on building a model for preserving the Amazon’s rainforests. The mission is to build a model for preserving the Amazon’s rainforests while teaching artisanship, woodworking skills, and sustainability practices to produce products where the value is added locally for the benefit of Amazon communities. These social and economic benefits bring environmental benefits when people learn to value the natural intact rainforests they live in, providing generations with an alternative to burning down the forest to raise cattle, one of the leading causes of deforestation in the Amazon.
